"Today, it's a one-shot clear table. If you clear the table, you win. If you miss a single ball, you lose. The time limit is 15 minutes." Larry, as the host, laid down the rules for the game.
I had no choice, so I agreed readily. "Okay."
"Shall we start the timer now?" He lounged on the sofa as if he were a special guest.
I stood in front of the billiard table, took a deep breath, and nodded to the person keeping time. At their cue, I began to play.
Each ball went into the pocket with precision. After ten minutes, there were only two balls left on the table.
So, I had basically won this game.
I held my breath, ready to take the final shot. With another precise strike, another ball went in, leaving only one ball on the table.
Larry applauded again, trying to distract me. But I didn't pay attention, focusing on the ball and taking another shot. Just as I did, I felt a sudden chill on my foot, like something was crawling over it.
