Harlan nodded slightly and straightened up. "Not bad, you're not a lovesick fool. But I'm curious, why did you want to save Derick? Is he that important to you?"
Though Harlan seemed friendly and didn't pressure me now, he was setting traps for me. He tried to figure out who I cared about the most, wanting to use my weaknesses to his advantage.
"He's not that important," I replied quickly.
Harlan chuckled, clearly not believing me. "But you used your only chance to save him."
"That's because Derick taught me how to play billiards, so this opportunity should belong to him," I said.
Harlan shook his head, still not convinced. "Why didn't you try to save yourself? Trying to get me to let you go?"
"You were going to keep me around to watch the game. Even if I left here, I wouldn't make it to the airport. Besides, I came here to watch Derick play, so I don't want to leave." I looked at Harlan's rolled-up sleeve, noticing a scar on his arm.
