"Harlan!" Brandon's cold, detached voice came through the phone.
But to me, it was a sound I desperately wanted to hear. I was tempted to scream for help, but I restrained myself.
The more I begged for help, the more leverage Harlan would have over Brandon.
Harlan chuckled, placing the phone on the desk stand. Then, he picked up his wine glass again. "Brandy, your woman is the perfect mix of sweet and stunning. She's a real keeper."
"She's not my woman anymore," Brandon's icy voice replied.
His words were true, but they still felt like a knife cutting through my heart.
"Is that so? I guess my information wasn't accurate enough," Harlan said, clicking his tongue.
"Do you have anything else to say? If not, I'll hang up," Brandon said. His words plunged an icy dagger into my heart.
Even though I knew he didn't love me anymore, I couldn't believe he'd be so heartless when I was in danger. Harlan had me hostage, yet he seemed completely indifferent.
