The night breeze drifted softly around us. Brandon's shadow stretched long beneath the streetlights, making him look taller than when we were still together.
I moved closer, and our shadows intertwined as if we were one. The sight tightened my chest, and I struggled to catch my breath. I couldn't shake the thought of his new status and how he was about to marry into the Griffins family.
The pain was so sharp that I blurted out, "Mr. Howell, what is it you wanted to say?"
Brandon didn't look at me. His eyes were fixed somewhere in the dark. "Didn't you want to see Derick's game? It's next week. I'll get you a plane ticket."
I could feel my heart drop. He didn't mean for me to watch a game. He just wanted me gone. He was getting married soon. Was he worried I'd mess things up if I stuck around?
