Chapter 514
The crowd scattered in all directions.
I grabbed Ellie's hand and followed the others as we ran toward higher ground.
But the floodwaters were moving much faster than our legs could carry us. Before we could reach safety, the water had already caught up to us.
"Mae, Mae..." Ellie cried out in fear.
I was scared too, but fear wasn't going to help us now. Luckily, I spotted a flagpole platform nearby and pulled Ellie toward it.
I managed to lift her onto the platform, but the water had already reached me. I was swept away before I could climb up myself.
Luckily, I wasn't swept away too far before I managed to grab onto something. I held on tightly, struggling to keep my head above water.
"Mae, Mae..." Ellie was crying and shouting, clinging to the flagpole.
The floodwaters were carrying all sorts of debris. I was being battered and bruised by the force of the water.
At that moment, I didn't feel any pain or the coldness of the water. All I felt was an overwhelming sense of fear.
