I closed my eyes. My heart, which had been anxious about not being able to contact him, finally felt at ease.
"Where are you?" I asked him back.
"I'm at the front door."
As soon as I heard this, I could almost imagine him standing alone in the empty house.
He didn't know I'd moved, so he went back to the place again. I couldn't get in touch with him.
"You didn't bring your phone. I asked Ellie, and she said you went home. Lisa was in the middle of surgery again, and I couldn't reach you," Brandon explained.
I took a deep breath and slowly opened my eyes, looking at my new home. "I couldn't reach you either."
"I know." His response made me smile wryly.
