Only the weak would get picked on, and the fact that Chris and Jewel dared to confront me after what they did proved that I was a weakling in their eyes. They had mistaken my acquiescence for submission when, in truth, it was simply indifference.
In that case, I had no choice but to show them I could still sting if I wanted.
Chris grimaced at my sharp words. "Madeline," he said.
"Let go," I barked again.
He did not obey and instead said, "I wasn't blaming you or anything. I just… wanted to let you know."
"What for? To make up for your slimy actions?"
My words were nothing short of vicious as I snapped, "Don't waste your breath. I'm not interested in your life updates anyway."
A muscle feathered in his jaw when he heard this, and judging by the throbbing vein on his temple, I knew he was leashing his temper. His gaze flickered as he stared at me.
I knew that in the past, he would have slammed the door shut and walked away without another word. Surprisingly, he did not walk away
