"What's going on upstairs? It sounds like an earthquake."
As Martha spoke, she set down the dog in her arms and was about to head upstairs.
"Martha, don't go!" Logan quickly stopped her.
Martha looked at him suspiciously. "Why not?"
Logan scratched his head, then came up with an excuse in a flash of inspiration. "Martha, I want a bowl of tomato soup. Can you make me one right now?"
"I thought you don't like that?" Martha wasn't easy to fool. Her mind only seemed to get sharper with age.
He didn't, but Lisa did. And with all that commotion upstairs, she was definitely awake now.
Growing anxious, Logan didn't bother explaining. Instead, he used his long legs to sprint up the stairs, taking three steps at a time. As soon as he entered the room, he locked the door behind him.
"Liz..."
The moment he stepped inside, he saw Lisa standing amidst shattered porcelain pieces, wearing his black shirt. Her long, bare legs contrasted starkly with the broken fragments beneath her feet.
