CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY EIGHT – REBUILDING HER LIFE AGAIN
As the morning sun streamed through the window, casting a warm glow over the kitchen, Charlotte and Lorenzo shared a smile. Whatever came next, they both knew that something had changed.
In this unlikely encounter, they'd found a connection neither of them had expected - and perhaps, just perhaps, the beginnings of something more.
As the days passed, Charlotte found herself falling into a routine with Lorenzo. But as his injuries began to heal, she noticed a shift in her own behavior. The evenings that had once been filled with conversation were now punctuated by the clink of wine glasses and the soft hiss of beer cans opening.
One particularly rough night, Charlotte stumbled into the living room, bottle in hand, her eyes glassy and unfocused.
"Char?" Lorenzo's voice was laced with concern. "You okay?"
Charlotte let out a bitter laugh. "Okay? Sure, I'm great. Just peachy."
She flopped onto the couch, nearly spilling her drink. Lorenzo carefully took the bottle from her hand.
