CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY TWO – SECRET ADMIRER?
Charlotte wiped down the bar counter at The Rusty Anchor, her mind wandering to her recent reconciliation with Richard. The pub was quiet, with only a few regulars nursing their drinks in the corners.
"Oi, Charlotte!" Tony's gruff voice called from the kitchen. "Come 'ere a sec, will ya?"
Charlotte set down her cloth and made her way to the kitchen. "What's up, Tony?"
The cook stood by the back door, a puzzled look on his face. He held up a small package wrapped in brown paper. "This was left by the back door. It's got your name on it."
"For me?" Charlotte frowned, taking the package. "That's odd. Who would leave something here for me?"
Tony shrugged. "Beats me. Secret admirer, maybe?"
Charlotte carefully unwrapped the package. Inside was a small, ornate music box. As she opened it, a tinkling melody filled the air.
"Well, that's proper fancy," Tony remarked. "Any idea who it's from?"
Charlotte shook her head, noticing a small note tucked inside. She unfolded it and read aloud:
