CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY TWO – WORKPLACE DRAMA
Charlotte whirled around to find Liam, one of the bartenders, regarding them with a raised brow. His gaze flickered between the two women, a hint of suspicion lurking in his eyes.
"Of course," Megan purred, sliding her arm through Charlotte's in a parody of camaraderie. "Just having a friendly chat with my dear colleague, isn't that right, Charlotte?"
The saccharine words felt like poison on Charlotte's tongue, but she forced a tight smile, nodding mutely in acquiescence.
As Liam retreated, Charlotte wrenched her arm free from Megan's grip, glaring daggers at the other woman.
"This isn't over," she warned in a low growl.
Megan's responding chuckle was utterly devoid of mirth. "Oh, I certainly hope not."
In the days that followed, the discord among the staff became palpable. Allegiances were formed, fracturing the once-cohesive unit into two distinct factions – those who rallied behind Megan's false innocence, and those who quietly supported Charlotte.
