Later that night, Charlotte confided in Anya. In the dimly lit room, the secret whispered from Charlotte's lips felt like a weight threatening to crush them both.
"What if I can help?" Charlotte said, her voice barely a whisper. "Lady Griffith… she looked desperate. Maybe there's something I can do with my… bookkeeping skills."
Anya's brow furrowed. "That's a risky proposition, Charlotte. Lady Griffith prides herself on her control. Unveiling her financial woes could backfire spectacularly."
"But if they go bankrupt," Charlotte countered, fear lacing her voice, "the entire household will suffer. Richard, the servants, everyone."
Anya pursed her lips, her mind processing the dilemma. "There might be a way," she said finally. "We need to tread carefully. Perhaps… you could offer to help Lady Griffith with some minor tasks, slowly work your way into her confidence. Maybe then, you can subtly suggest streamlining household expenses or seeking a financial advisor."
