Chapter 9
Sandra tried to stop Trent's car, but it was too late. The only thing she could do was call Vance.
When Vance answered, he saw Trent's car speeding away in the opposite direction. He slammed his foot on the gas, and the engine roared to life.
Seconds later, he smashed into Trent's car with such force that it left a huge dent. Trent was slumped in the driver's seat, his head covered in blood.
Vance got out of his car, not even sparing Trent a glance as he yanked open the back door and reached for Rosalea's body. He still couldn't believe that she was gone. He pulled the cloth from her face, and her eyes were closed like she was just asleep.
Vance ran his fingers over her cheek and whispered, "Rose?"
Rosalea's pale lips stayed still. Vance parted his lips, his eyes burning with grief.
Trent dragged himself out of the car, grabbed a metal rod, and swung at Vance from behind.
The moonlight bathed them both.
