CHAPTER FIVE HUNDRED AND FORTY EIGHT – THE FUNERAL
As the ceremony concluded, Marco addressed the room. His voice was steady, carrying the authority of his new position.
"My father built this family with his bare hands," he said. "He taught us strength, loyalty, and the importance of family above all else. I stand before you now, not to replace him – for no one could – but to continue his legacy. I ask for your trust, your loyalty, and your support as we move forward together."
A murmur of agreement rippled through the room. Jasmine watched as each person present approached Marco, kissing his cheek or shaking his hand, reaffirming their allegiance to the new Don Cesaro.
As the last of the guests filed out, Jasmine finally approached Marco. He looked exhausted, the weight of the day – and his new responsibilities – evident in the set of his shoulders.
"How are you holding up?" she asked softly, taking his hand.
Marco sighed, some of the tension leaving his body at her touch. "I'm not sure. It doesn't feel real yet. All of this..."
