CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY SEVEN – IDIOTIC STUNTS
No sooner had she spoken than the familiar, corpulent silhouette of Mr. Wilkins emerged from the stairwell, his puffy face blistering a deep scarlet as he surveyed the chaos.
The sisters instinctively flinched, already anticipating the bellow of unrestrained vitriol that was no doubt about to be unleashed.
"WHAT...IN THE EVER-LOVING, GODFORSAKEN HELL...DID YOU TWO DO THIS TIME?!"
He seemed to swell even larger with each wheezing word, his meaty fingers jabbing in their direction as he stomped through the accumulated rainwater. The battalion chief quickly cleared her throat and placed a restraining hand on his barrel-like chest.
"Sir, I need you to take a breath and remain calm," she spoke in clipped, authoritative tones. "We've ascertained this was simply...a unfortunate incident, and not in fact an active fire or other public safety threat."
