Chapter 19

“What is she doing here?” Kate mumbled. Seemingly recalling something, she intentionally got closer to Noah. She walked over to Isla after whispering into his ear. He pursed his lips while watching her go. He did not stop her. “Ms. Isla.” She walked forward with a cryptic smile on her clean face. “What a coincidence. We meet again.” Isla felt uneasy when she recalled that Kate was coveting her man. Her tone became intimidating. “How can I help you, Ms. Kate?” She sensed her hostility and quietly flipped her hair. She looked at the stunning person among everyone present, following Isla’s stare. Then, she chuckled. “He’s an outstanding man, indeed. That’s why I can understand why so many women want to get closer to him. But I’m going to be honest, what kind of woman has he not seen before? How could he fall for such women? Don’t you think so, Ms. Isla?” Isla’s eyes turned dark. “Just get straight to the point. Stop beating around the bush.” Coldness flashed through Kate’s eyes when she heard that. She straightened her body and said arrogantly, “Since you said that, I’m going to be straightforward. Please respect yourself, Ms. Isla. Stop clinging to a man so shamelessly. Noah was clear about not wanting to see you when we were at Gilded Times, yet you dared to follow him here. You’re just shameless!” Isla’s face was turning cold by now. She looked away from Noah and looked at Kate coldly, seemingly trying to figure out something. “May I ask what position you think you occupy to be speaking to me like that?” She scoffed, her tone cold. “Are you Noah’s girlfriend?” Kate felt uneasy under her deadly stare. Upon recalling that Noah had not stopped her just now, though, she felt courageous. She lifted her head and stared directly at Isla. She then nodded arrogantly. “Since you know, stop embarrassing yourself.” Isla’s face changed when Kate admitted their relationship. Her heart began aching as if someone had hit it hard. She clenched her fists and calmed down before saying in a condescending manner, not sure whether she was smiling, “Don’t you know, Ms. Kate? I heard that Noah is married. You said you’re his girlfriend…” She gave her a cryptic smile. There was mockery in her eyes now. Kate’s face suddenly turned pale, and the hand that was holding her bag clenched. So the rumor was true, he was really married. Since it had not been proven, she had been pushing her luck, believing that it was only a rumor. Besides, nobody had seen his wife. Nobody knew if it was true. However, Isla was speaking with such determination that it seemed as if she knew something… Kate calmed down and shot back coldly, “Do you think I’d believe such a baseless rumor?” If she had not torn the marriage certificate, Isla would have been eager to throw it at Kate. Seeing that she said nothing and kept her head down, she thought she believed in hearsay. She was relieved yet annoyed when she looked at her now. “I’d advise you to know your own limits. Don’t covet things that you shouldn’t,” Kate said while glancing at an attendant. She then said angrily, “Not any Tom, Dick, or Harry can come here. To prevent any trouble, you shouldn’t let people with ill intentions take a step in this place.” “I’m sorry, Ms. Kate. I’ll deal with it right away.” The woman apologized to her instantly and then turned her head to Isla. Her tone changed right away. “Please leave, miss, or I’ll call security.” Kate smirked proudly. She looked at Isla in a condescending manner and smiled. “You heard her. Are you going to wait for security to come?” The attendant was more aggressive now as she said seriously, “Please leave!” “She’s my partner. What right do you have to ask her to leave?” Zac walked over quickly and blocked Isla. He had no smile on his face at all as he glanced over with his sharp eyes and said angrily, “I’m asking the two of you to apologize to her. If you don’t–” The attendant glanced at him. As though she had thought of something, she quickly bowed to apologize to Isla. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know that you were Mr. Zac’s partner. I was blind to ask you to leave. Please forgive me.” Isla lifted her head and glanced at Zac. She was in deep thought. Kate was surprised as she looked at Isla and then at Zac. She was upset. “This is between her and me. Why are you interrupting, Zac?” Zac felt coldness fill him and lost all the gentleness he’d had with Isla. “I invited her here. You fighting with her is akin to fighting with me. Apologize to her, Kate!” His tone was majestic and suppressive, making Kate feel even more pissed. “Please open your eyes, Zac. She’s no simple woman.” Kate inched closer to Isla and whispered, “I admire you for seducing him so soon. But don’t be greedy. You can’t covet Noah.” She scoffed in disdain after she spoke. She was leaving. “Wait.” Isla smirked coldly and said slowly, “I want to return your advice to you. You can’t covet Noah!” He was hers and hers only! Kate was so stunned that she scoffed. “We’ll see!” Just when she turned around, Zac’s cold voice came. “Did I say you can leave?” “What exactly do you want?” Kate turned around and looked at Zac with irritation as she frowned. “Apologize!” His voice was rather loud, stunning the guests inside. Many people looked at them as Kate glared fiercely at Isla, unwilling to bow to her. They were at a stalemate. Footsteps came, and Noah’s cold voice was heard. “What’s wrong?” His dark eyes landed on Isla. The emotion in his eyes was unfathomable. Kate was relieved to hear his voice. She smiled and grabbed his hand while saying softly, “There’s a misunderstanding between us. It’s nothing, but Ms. Isla’s partner seems to be mad, so–” “Is that so?” He scoffed and stared with his eyes, which were as dark as the abyss, at Isla. Coldness spread deep in his eyes. Isla was a woman of double standards! She was unwilling to go to any public events with her legal husband, yet she was willing to go to a private party with a man that she had known for less than a day. She was really testing his limits!
