Shelmaine set down her glass and turned to leave the kitchen, brushing past Samuel. He grabbed her arm, holding her in place. "This is the second time."
"What are you talking about?"
"Last time, you did the same thing." Samuel's grip tightened slightly, the veins on the back of his hand pulsing.
"Samuel, can you stop speaking in riddles and just say what you mean?" she asked, her confusion evident.
However, he fell silent.
"What do you mean by this?" Shelmaine pressed, growing more puzzled by his behavior.
Suddenly, Samuel scooped her up and set her on the countertop beside them. Moving closer, his knee pressed against her legs to keep her from squirming away. "Are you really clueless, or are you just pretending?"
"I honestly have no idea what you're talking about," Shelmaine said, leaning back to avoid his touch. Her legs were trapped, one hand bracing against the counter and the other held defensively against his chest. "Stop this, okay?"
