"Sit down." Samuel's posture was relaxed, a pair of gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose, giving him an air of refinement, but Shelmaine knew better. Behind the polished exterior, he was a scoundrel.
Shelmaine remained standing, her tone cold. "Remember what you promised me."
Samuel lit a cigarette, the flame briefly illuminating his face. His expression softened, as if a glacier were slowly melting. His eyes locked onto hers, unwavering, as though he couldn't quite believe she was there, unable to look away.
Shelmaine felt a chill under his intense gaze. She took a step back instinctively. "Stop staring. If you have something to say, just say it."
