Samuel's grip on Shelmaine was firm. His eyes were dark and unrelenting as he stared down at her. "You've got some nerve, disappearing for two years and coming back just to hand me divorce papers. Who gave you that kind of courage, huh?"
Shelmaine's throat tightened. Her heart pounded as she struggled to find her voice. She had imagined running into him many times, but never like this—never out in the open with so many strangers watching. She wanted nothing more than to crawl into a hole and hide.
"Well?" His voice was low and edged with impatience. "Cat got your tongue?"
It took her a moment to regain her composure. When she finally spoke, she kept her tone calm though every nerve in her body screamed at her to run.
"Samuel, maybe we should take this somewhere private. Pulling me around in public like this isn't a good look."
