Shelmaine clenched her fists tightly and bit down hard on her lip to keep from sobbing aloud. Tears streamed down her face, blurring her vision until everything was just a haze of shadows and light. She kept her head down, unable to speak. She didn't even know when Josie had left. The door to the office had closed softly at some point. Samuel's hand moved gently over her neck, his voice soft, almost comforting. "Stop crying. She's gone now. Crying like this makes it look like I bullied you again." Shelmaine's hand struck his face sharply, the sound echoing in the room. Samuel didn't even flinch. A faint smile still played on his lips as he spoke in an infuriatingly calm tone, "Want to hit me on the other side too? Hmm?" He turned his head slightly, offering her his cheek. Shelmaine's hand shot up again, ready to strike, but Samuel was quicker. He caught her wrist and placed her hand over his chest, holding it there. "Really? You'd hit me again? Come on, Shelly, you know it's not
