"I don't know. If you want to tell him, go ahead," Shelmaine said with a bitter, defeated smile, her eyes hollow and drained of hope. It was as if nothing Samuel could do would affect her anymore. She'd already given up.
Samuel's grip on her waist tightened. "Do you think I won't?"
"You will. There's nothing you won't do." She had no filter anymore—she was pushing every button, daring him to act.
Samuel, his patience already worn thin, sneered. "Fine. Let's call him, then."
He grabbed his phone and dialed Julien's number in front of her. Shelmaine's heart raced, pounding against her chest as she bit down hard on her lip, trying to hold her ground.
But Samuel didn't miss a thing—he watched her closely, savoring every flicker of fear, every subtle change in her expression. They were locked in a silent standoff.
The phone rang, and just as it was about to connect, Shelmaine broke. "I'm sorry. Don't tell him, please."
