Chapter 143
At the hospital, Shelmaine borrowed a charging cable from the nurse to charge her phone. Her phone screen shattered, with spiderweb-like lines forming across one corner. Fortunately, it was still usable, and she managed to power it on.
As soon as she did, she received a flurry of messages from her studio. She took the time to deal with the studio matters and go through her messages. She also told Beatrix that she wouldn't be back for a while but didn't explain why.
When the nurse changed her dressing, she said, "Your boyfriend is still outside. Why isn't he coming in to keep you company?"
The ward was a private suite, so they were alone.
Shelmaine pressed her lips together. "He's not my boyfriend."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought he was."
"It's fine," Shelmaine replied. Her smile was faint, and it didn't seem like she was paying much attention.
