"No, I'm worried your dad might pull something. You two haven't been in touch for years, and if he gets desperate, it could be dangerous for you," Isabelle warned.
Shelmaine knew Isabelle was right. Just as she was about to respond, there was a loud knock at her door. She shot up and cautiously moved to the door. "Who is it?"
There was no response. The knocking paused before it resumed more forcefully.
She peered through the peephole but saw nothing; it was completely dark as if someone had covered it. Alarmed, she checked that the door was locked and asked again, "Who's there? Speak up."
A man's voice responded from outside. "Open up! Open the door, now!"
"Who are you?!"
"It doesn't matter who I am! This is my room. Who's in my room? Get out!"
The man sounded drunk. Shelmaine grabbed the room phone and called the front desk, asking them to send someone up. She stayed in the room, refusing to open the door or step out.
