Luna didn't show up, and no other family members miraculously appeared. After Ian pleaded with Dr. Sanders, he finally agreed to let him sign the paperwork for my surgery. I felt clear-headed enough to sign it myself. I was an adult. Why couldn't I put my name on a document that determined my fate? I was experiencing symptoms like periosteal hyperplasia and joint swelling, along with fluid in my joints. The pain was mostly at night, ranging from mild soreness to severe agony. It
