Chapter 27: Nathan's Investigation
Nathan's mug sat cold and neglected on the edge of the desk as he fixed his stare on the glowing screen. His office, which was usually the picture of efficiency, had now been transformed into something more akin to a war room. His printouts of emails, scribbled notes, and a dog-eared copy of Olivia's exhibition catalog were strewn everywhere on his desk.
The image of Olivia at the gallery floated about in his mind for days. It had been the pallor of her skin, a slight tremor in her hands, the way she'd leaned on the wall when she thought no one watched—whatever—all of that pointed to something that Nathan couldn't turn a blind eye to, much as he tried.
He threw the pencil down in frustration and pushed himself away from his desk, striding to the window. There it was: the city, spread out beneath him in all its architectural glory. Somehow, it seemed less impressive now that Olivia's image had elbowed its way so intrusively into the front of his mind.
