The coffee shop was full of morning activity, but Alex hardly took notice of the noise—the constant orders and steaming espresso machines. His eyes were drawn to the scene outside the window. Nathan was deep in conversation with Dr. Chen, Olivia's oncologist, yet again; it was the third time this week he'd caught them together, heads bowed in intense discussion. His fingers unconsciously tightened around his cup as a wave of unease burbled in his stomach. Nathan's constant presence in Olivia's life had been. unsettling.
