Hostage Crisis
Kieran and I had to identify ourselves before we were allowed to pass the police cordon.
We took the lift up to the roof, escorted by two uniformed officers.
As the door slid open, I spotted Erin straight away.
She was being lifted onto a stretcher, barely conscious.
Her forehead was wrapped in a bandage, with blood seeping through.
Her face was white as a sheet.
She grew agitated when she saw me. ‘Amiyah! Help! Save my baby, please!’
She had given birth via Caesarean section less than a month ago.
Weak and bleeding, she cried and tried to touch me. ‘Help my baby!’
The man next to her must be her husband.
He held her hand and was crying, too.
I paused in front of the stretcher. ‘I’ll do my best.’
I watched the medical staff carry her away.
Her husband shot me a grateful look before the lift door slid shut.
‘Come on,’ one of the two officers accompanying us said.
He led the way down the corridor where a door was propped open by a cinder block.
