A Waiting Game
Marty gave Vanessa another once-over. ‘Look at the way you are dressed. You never came to parties like this. Yet, here you are. I know what you are trying to do, but I seriously hope you’d reconsider. It’s not a good idea to rush into a relationship just so you can forget about the previous one.’
Vanessa laughed. ‘My god, you are so full of yourself.’
‘It’s not fair to you. Or to the man you are about to have a relationship with.’ Marty said in a voice loud enough for half the room to hear, ‘After all, what man wants to date a woman who’s frigid in bed?’
The moment the words left his mouth, I felt the air around me go still.
Vanessa glared at her ex-husband, her eyes turning red.
‘Aw, is that why you had to divorce her?’ Marty’s date piled on. ‘I feel bad for you.’
I set down my wineglass and was about to step up for Vanessa, but someone pulled on my elbow.
I turned around.
Kieran gestured for me to wait.
Wait for what?
I shot him a puzzled look.
He led me to the side quietly and tilte
