Kieran glanced towards the closed office door. ‘Sarah’s missing along with her family.’
‘You think Rainey’s got them?’ I asked.
‘I can’t be sure, but neither can I rule it out.’ He sighed. ‘That’s why I agreed to take the meeting. I thought Rainey was going to use Sarah to force us into signing the contract.’
‘But she didn’t.’
‘Either she had another plan. Or…’
‘Or she doesn’t have Sarah under her control,’ I said.
Kieran nodded. ‘She has to know Sarah’s no longer working at the restaurant. She also knows the goons she sent after us failed. Yet, she said nothing during the meeting.’
I blew out a breath, frustrated. ‘I don’t understand what the woman’s thinking. She’s always been a little crazy.’
I looked at Kieran. ‘So, what should we do now?’
‘We stall. Wait for news from Lin.’
I glanced at the contract lying on the desk. ‘Do you think the R&D centre’s a real deal, or just a smokescreen?’
