I dug my nails into the back of Mia’s hand and forced her to drop the scalpel, which I flicked away.
‘Amiyah!’ Kieran kicked the door wide open.
The girl froze.
I seized the opportunity and gave her a hard push.
Mia banged her back against the wall.
‘What’s going on?’ Kieran rushed to my bedside.
I switched on the lamp.
The neck in Mia’s wound was bleeding again.
Blood dripped down the front of her hospital gown, staining it dark red.
She made no move to stop the bleeding.
Kieran kept a wary eye on her as he checked me for injuries.
‘I’m fine. Get the doctor. She’s bleeding.’
Kieran reached for the call button and stayed by my side.
Mia slid onto the floor, a look of desperation on her pale face.
‘Why?’ she muttered. ‘Why won’t you just die?’
She screamed and thrashed when the doctors tried to tend to her wound.
In the end, they had to give her a shot of a sedative to calm her down.
Kieran followed them out of the ward as they carried Mia away.
