Almost A Murderer
Maybe I wasn’t a true believer, or maybe the donation wasn’t sizeable enough.
None of the things I did made a difference.
I moved out of the house where Sarah died; she followed me to the apartment.
I took medications daily to numb my brain; she appeared in my dreams.
I visited Dr Kent every week; she was there in the office with me.
I even went back to the temple and bought more talismans.
But Sarah kept haunting me.
She finally drove me over the edge on a stormy night.
The gates of heaven opened.
Buckets of water came pouring down.
Big fat raindrops pelted the windows.
I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep, just to stop Kieran from worrying.
I counted the time in my head.
It was approaching midnight.
The storm showed no signs of stopping.
I rolled over to lie on my side, facing the door.
When Sarah showed up, I wasn’t surprised.
Nothing surprised me anymore
‘Amiyah.’ She smiled, her fangs glinting under a flash of lightning. ‘Come with me.’
I just stared at her.
