Gunpoint
I placed a hand on Conor’s arm, felt his muscles tense. ‘Conor, don’t do it.’
He kept his eyes on Brennan’s face. ‘I have to.’
‘He’ll be arrested. He’ll answer for what he did in a court of law. He’ll go to prison for a long time. Please, don’t throw your own life away by doing this.’
Conor shook his head.
Even in the dimness of the living room, I could see the grief in his eyes, and pain and despair.
‘It’s not enough. The fire, there’s no evidence he did it. He’ll never be held responsible for what he did to my parents. He has to—’
Brennan moved.
His hands whipped up, went for the gun aimed at his forehead.
‘Amiyah!’ Kieran yanked me back by my waist, out of harm’s way.
Brennan grunted as he tried to wrest the gun out of Conor’s hand but got punched in the gut instead.
It gave Kieran time to pounce as he aimed a powerful kick at the back of Brennan’s left knee, sending him flying forward.
Brennan knocked into Conor.
Both fell in a tangle of limbs.
