A Strange Turn
‘Amiyah, wake up!’ Louise was calling loudly, no doubt trying to draw Kieran into the room.
Conor glanced at her, then back at me.
I saw understanding dawning in his eyes.
He flashed a grin at me, shifted his body, gestured with his right hand. ‘Ladies first.’
I walked past him into the room.
It had a similar layout to the one I woke up in.
The curtains were drawn, but enough light streamed into the room for me to spot the tangle of clothes on the floor.
I made out a long black dress, torn at the hem, and a man’s shirt with the top two buttons missing, and underwear.
That, plus the smell, told me what happened here last night—the same thing that would have happened to me if Erin hadn’t screwed up and put me in the wrong room.
Louise had her back to us, bending over a figure in bed, tugging at the quilt. ‘Amiyah, wake up!’
‘Are you looking for me?’ I stepped forward.
She spun around, gasped when she saw me, staggered back.
Her face was the very definition of ‘seeing a ghost.’
