I shook my arm, felt my palm sting, saw black dots swimming in front of my eyes.
I hadn’t quite bounced back from the fever yet.
‘Conor, do whatever you want, just keep her alive. Tristan, let’s go.’
Conor’s thugs blocked the doorway, only moved aside at a signal from him.
I left the room with Tristan and kept walking until we reached the carpark.
‘Fuck.’ He whacked the bonnet of his car and swore loudly.
‘What’s wrong?’
‘Who the hell is that Conor dude? He acts like he owns the fucking city.’
I briefed him on Conor’s background.
‘So he’s loaded.’ Tristan snorted. ‘Who isn’t? Do the two of you have a history?’
‘If, by history, you mean friends, yes. We were childhood pals once, nothing more.’
Tristan stroked his chin. ‘He sure looked like he wanted to be more than just pals.’
‘Just ignore him.’ I got in the convertible. ‘Let’s go.’
Tristan started the car. ‘Do you think Erin really stole his stuff?’
‘Sadly, yes. I wouldn’t put it past her to pull crap like that.’
