CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE - Uncomfortable Interrogations
"Of course I did," Kathy replied, waving off Nia's protests. "That's what friends are for."
As Dr. Carnegie left, Kathy helped Nia pack up her belongings. They chatted about Nia's homecoming, carefully avoiding any mention of the investigation or the events that led to her hospitalization.
The next morning, Nia changed into regular clothes for the first time in two weeks, relishing the feeling of normalcy. Kathy arrived to pick her up, pushing a wheelchair despite Nia's insistence that she could walk.
As they left the hospital, the bright sunlight made Nia squint. She took a deep breath of fresh air, feeling a mix of relief and anxiety. She was glad to be out of the hospital, but the world suddenly felt big and dangerous.
Kathy seemed to sense her unease. "Don't worry," she said softly as they approached her car. "I've got your back. We'll figure this out together."
