Chapter 13

Shane would not easily hate someone, but even if Jake left his coat to keep her warm, she still couldn't like him. Before Shane refused, Jake seemed to have seen through her thoughts and said, "The one you wear is mine. Would you like to take it off and return it to me now?" Shane gaped and looked down at the men's shirt she was wearing. When she looked up again, Jake had already walked toward his car, and Zander was helping him open the car door. Withdrawing her gaze, Shane tightened her coat. She could smell a nice masculine breath mixed with a touch of tobacco... Rejecting the eager inquiry from the medical staff around her again, Shane walked towards a taxi not far away. The driver stood outside the car and watched Shane opened the door of the back seat and sat in. Without saying anything, the driver quickly got into the driving position, turned around and asked, "Miss, where are we going?" "Tide Road in Songshan District...", Shane told him her address. The driver adjusted the AC of the taxi and turned his head from time to time and asked out of concern, "Miss, do you still feel cold?" Shane was indeed cold and her teeth kept trembling. Even if the driver raised the temperature of the air conditioner repeatedly, it still not enough to warm her up. ... In front of a townhouse in Longshan District, Shane asked the driver to stop. This is the famous ‘rich district’ in Jacksonville. As soon as the driver stopped the car, Shane remembered that she had taken off her coat at the bottom of the lake, and she had no money to pay the driver. The driver master seemed to understand too, turned his head, smiled and said, "You don't need to pay any more. I admire your courage. I don't need the money..." Shane didn't say anything but reluctantly bent the corner of her mouth. She still found a black money clip from his coat jacket. Opening the wallet, she saw rows of bank cards and hotel VIP gold cards, as well as a man's ID card. The ID is under a man named Jake Smith, 32 years old. Below the ID card is his address. Shane hesitated for a moment, and finally took out a 15 dollar bill from the man's wallet and handed it to the driver... ... Without having the key , Shane stood quietly in front of the apartment and rang the doorbell of her house. She didn't expect anyone to come out and open the door for her. However, to her surprise, the door was quickly opened with the use of a remote control from the inside. When Shane appeared in the living room, she couldn't help looking at Lance sitting on the sofa in surprise. Lance's hair was a little messy, and he was wearing only a light gray pajama. He turned his head and looked towards the door. "Why are you here?", Shane asked as she looked at the suitcase in the corner. She lowered her head and replaced the drenched shoes on her feet. "This is our future house, can't I come?" "Oh, it's okay.", Shane gave perfunctory reply then took off the man's coat on her body, revealing her wet shirt. Lance got up from the sofa, frowned and looked at her clothes, and asked, "Where have you been?" Shane didn't answer, changed her shoes and walked past him, but Lance grabbed her wrist. Turning around, Lance picked up a blue jewelry box on the coffee table, opened it, and put a beautiful Dior bracelet on her wrist... Shane slowly lowered her head and stared at the diamond bracelet on her wrist. Lance laughed, squinted his eyes, half of his body tilted on the sofa, looking at Shane and asked, "Do you like the gift I brought back from my last business trip?" "Yes……" Shane didn't even look at the bracelet before turning around and entering the bedroom. Thinking of Lance embracing other women in the hotel two days ago, Shane felt disgusted. But looking at the handsome face she had been obsessed with for 6 years, she took back the words that were about to come out from her mouth. Soon, there was a sound of water from the bathroom in the bedroom, and Shane took off the wet clothes stuck to her body and immersed herself in the warm bath water to drive away the chill. Suddenly, Lance knocked at the door of the toilet. "Shane, did you see my bright blue dark-patterned tie when you were packing up?!", asked Lance. "No, I'll find it for you later when I go out..." "Okay.", Lance outside the door responded lightly. Lance is a nostalgic person and he only has a soft spot for that tie. Shane closed her eyes and the sourness in her heart was replaced by sweet memories. Her thoughts seemed to freeze, trying to turn back the time. In the car accident six years ago, she suffered a serious brain injury. After three months of blindness, she finally opened her eyes. The first thing that catches her eye is Lance's neat shirt collar. The overly colored tie is complementing the handsome face that is indignant. Lance smiled frankly and said to the 17-year-old, "I'm sorry, I ran into you while driving and couldn't send you to the hospital in time. It's really because something happened at home. But you can rest assured I will be responsible for all the treatment costs and any requests you make." Shane didn't answer, but looked at him stupidly as if time was still. Lance's smile stopped for a moment and asked, "What are you looking at?"
