Percy and I cautiously descended the stairs, our eyes scanning every corner for any signs of danger. My heart was racing, unsettled by the shattering noise we had just heard. I prayed that it was not an intruder trying to terrorize us in our own apartment.
We had always felt safe and secure here, and the thought of someone trying to break that peace was unsettling. We reached the bottom of the stairs, still on high alert, ready for whatever may come our way.
As we stepped into the living room, a feeling of unease washed over us. The room was eerily quiet and there was no sign of anyone else. Relief began to wash over me, but then I noticed the shattered glass scattered across the floor. It was clear that something had happened here, and it was not good.
My initial sense of safety was quickly replaced with a sense of danger and uncertainty. It was clear that we needed to be cautious and on high alert.
