I plugged the USB drive into my computer and played the video on it. On the screen, Joel stood at the rooftop's edge as Elise approached. Elise said, "Joel, I'm leaving for Marivenia." "Ah. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors." "Before I go, I've been meaning to tell you something. I'm sure you already know, but I've always—" "There's no need to say it," he interrupted her. "The only person in my heart is Wren." "But..." "Elise, thank you for having my back all these years. But Wren and I have been married for five years. I could never betray her." "But you two don't seem happy." "That's my fault."Joel turned away. "I've been so busy that I've neglected her feelings. But I intend to make it up to her." The video ended abruptly. I sat frozen in my chair, tears blurring my vision. So it turned out that I had misunderstood him all along and that these three years of separation were all out of my stubbornness. At that exact moment, my office door swung open.
