Chapter 7 Grace Turner’s Temperament And Appearance That Do Not Match
Hawick cleared his throat. “The card is at home. Wait till I get it, and I’ll send it over to you.”
The kind Cecelia did not feel like Hawick was giving an excuse and thus thought about it for a while before saying, “Just mail it to me.”
Cecelia did not want to see him again, not even once more.
“... okay.” Hawick looked at the girl who had not said anything. “May I leave now?”
The girl looked at Cecelia and asked, “How much do you have in that card?”
“... 6... 60 thousand.” Cecelia felt embarrassed that she took almost six years to save that sum of money.
Cecelia thought that the girl would tease her. She might not have been well versed with brands, but Cecelia could tell that the girl’s clothes were not those bought from the roadside.
Unexpectedly, the girl did not say anything to Cecelia and instead looked over at Hawick. “200 thousand, no bargaining. In cash.”
“2... 200 thousand?”
“Why? Too little?” The girl raised her brows.
“N...no... that’s not it...” Hawick looked at Cecelia. “She only deposited 60 thousand, I...”
“Do you dare say that the 60 thousand is still around?”
“E...even if I did spend it all, it’s just considered borrowing. I’ll return every cent to her once I have the money...”
“How dare you spend all my money?” Cecelia had not expected Hawick to be that shameless. “I took over 6 years to save that money, and you spent all of it. How could you be so shameless?”
The girl patted Cecelia on the shoulder to comfort her. Then, she looked at Hawick coldly. “There is no need to wait for the future. Pay up now. You could consider using your other leg to pay for it as well.”
Hawick subconsciously held on to his leg that was still well. With a difficult expression on his face, he said, “I can’t make that much money in such a short time. Could you give me a few more days?”
The girl was not going to take any of his nonsense and merely pointed at the cougar who was not too far away with her lips. “It’s time to test how important you are to her.”
Hawick understood what she meant and looked embarrassingly at the old woman. Nevertheless, he had no one else to turn to.
Cecelia felt hurt as she watched Hawick coquettishly coax the cougar for money. After all, they had dated each other for more than a year or two.
Initially, Cecelia felt a sense of discomfort, but the girl next to her said, “Sister, I didn’t want to say this, but your taste in men isn’t that good.”
Cecelia was rendered speechless.
However, reality was, the cougar had a soft spot for Hawick as well. After a few minutes, Hawick returned with a signed cheque.
Cecelia immediately grabbed the cheque which clearly stated ‘RMB Twenty Thousand Only’ and stowed it in her pocket.
The money she had spent on Hawick was more than the amount written on the check. Not to mention, the true feelings she had invested in him could not be compared to money.
Cecelia’s eyes reddened when she thought about how stupid she had been in the past.
The girl looked at Cecelia and asked, “Do you have anything else you’d like to say?”
Cecelia firmly looked at Hawick. “From henceforth, we no longer have anything to do with each other!”
“Heard that?” The girl rested her arm on Cecelia’s shoulder and said in a rather threatening tone that was calm and steady, “From now onward, she is my buddy. If you dare give her any trouble, it would mean going against me, Grace Turner. Don’t regret later on if you lose another arm, or leg, or anything else.”
With that being said, Grace hooked arms with Cecelia and turned to leave with her.
At a burger shop.
Cecelia’s jaw widened with each passing moment as she watched Grace called for the waiter even after devouring five burgers.
Grace noticed her expression and rolled her eyes. “Why, are you detesting that I eat too much?”
“Not at all!”
Cecelia was indebted toward Grace as the latter had saved her life. Thus, there was no way she would be calculative about five burgers. Even if Grace wanted ten or a hundred burgers, Cecelia would willingly pay for all of them. Cecelia was only worried that Grace’s health would be affected as burgers were not the healthiest of foods.
She once again sneaked a peek at Grace.
‘This girl’s temperament is very different from her exterior.
‘She’s dressed in a very ladylike fashion, and yet she knows Kungfu.
‘Her name sounds so cutesy but she has a big appetite and prefers meat.’
The more Cecelia looked at Grace, the more of a fan she became of her. “Pretty sister, thank you so much for today. If not for you, around this time next year, I would be offered joss papers. But it isn’t like I have anyone who would visit my grave.”
Grace did not know how to reply to Cecelia’s statement.
Cecelia might have said it while smiling, but her statement was filled with negativity. Grace gulped a mouthful of milk tea before saying, “Men are just like that. If the old one does not leave, a new one will not come. A jerk has left, but who knows if the next one will be the sweetest man on earth. Look at the silver lining in between the clouds.”
‘Sweetest man on earth?’
Somehow, the first person that appeared in Cecelia’s mind was William who had washed her feet and cooked breakfast for her.
Other than being penniless, he was quite a sweet guy.
The thought of William reminded her it was getting quite late already.
When she left the house that day, she said that she would be back by six. However, the current time was almost eight. ‘Would he be worried about me?
‘Oh Cecelia, what are you thinking?
‘We’re just strangers. Even if he did show a few sweet gestures, can you guarantee that he isn’t like Hawick, putting up a show?
‘Cecelia, don’t be silly and gullible!
‘Men are all untrustworthy!’
Cecelia might have advised herself in such a manner, but she still said to Grace, “Pretty sister, I need to head home. Once again, I’m truly thankful to you for saving me today. This meal today shouldn’t be considered as repayment. Next time, let me buy you a better meal.”
“It’s alright. I already told you, I helped you because I found you rather pretty. If you were an ugly girl, I would not have been a busybody either.”
Grace disagreed that Cecelia should pay her back. Instead, she took out her phone from her pocket. “Should I scan your QR code, or shall I do it?”
Cecelia and Grace exchanged WeChat contacts and just as Cecelia reached home, her phone rang.
It was a voice message from Grace.
“I’m home. How about you?”
Cecelia replied, “Me too.”
Grace replied, “Good. That’s it for now.”
Two simple sentences were enough to warm Cecelia’s heart by a lot.
‘Is this what people mean by friends at first sight who wished they had met earlier?’
Cecelia quietly set a nickname for Grace...
She then looked at it and smiled like a fool. At the same time, William opened the door and witnessed the scene.
“What are you doing standing outside?”
Cecelia blinked and said, “Nothing! What about you? Why did you come out?”
William waved the garbage bag that was in his hand.
He was dressed in newly bought house attire and was as handsome as when he was wearing a suit the day before. Nevertheless, he gave Cecelia a different feeling when she saw him in casual clothes; he looked more approachable for some reason.
It has to be said that William looked so talented and handsome that the bag of garbage did no damage to his image.
Cecelia thought about the 500 bucks this morning and smiled. “Hehe, it was money well spent.”
“... don’t worry, I won’t let your money go to waste!”
‘... he understands? But why don’t I understand anything whenever he speaks?’
William went to throw the garbage and when he came back, he saw Cecelia still standing by the door.
His gaze lit up a little when he saw the lady by the door. “Why aren’t you coming in?”
Cecelia’s reply nearly caused William to experience hematemesis…
