CHAPTER SIXTY – FINDING THE THIEF

Over the next few days, Rebecca and Zaya began their covert investigation. They started by creating a log of all the missing items, noting dates, times, and any unusual occurrences. "Look at this," Zaya whispered during a quiet moment. She showed Rebecca their list. "It seems like most of the disappearances happen during the afternoon lull or right before closing." Rebecca furrowed her brow. "That's when there are fewer people around. Could be significant." Their detective work was interrupted by a commotion in the kitchen. Giovanni's voice boomed out, causing several customers to turn their heads. "Where are the truffles?" he bellowed. "I just got a new shipment yesterday, and now they're gone!" Maria rushed to calm him down, but the damage was done. The atmosphere in the café grew thick with suspicion as staff members eyed each other warily. Later that day, Rebecca was clearing tables when she overheard a hushed conversation between two regular customers. "Did you hear about t
