CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY - SEVEN - THE FAKED ACCIDENT
Matteo nodded in agreement. "Rebecca's right. Our best chance is to set a trap. Use their plan against them."
The next few hours were a flurry of activity as they formulated their strategy. Matteo called in reinforcements, setting up a perimeter around the safehouse. Luca contacted his most trusted men, positioning them strategically throughout the neighborhood.
As night fell, the tension in the safehouse was palpable. Rebecca sat in Helena's room, singing softly to her daughter as she rocked her to sleep.
"Hush little baby, don't say a word, Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird..."
Her voice faltered as she heard a noise downstairs. A soft thud, barely audible, but enough to set her nerves on edge.
Carefully, she laid Helena in her crib and crept to the door, her heart pounding. She could hear muffled voices, then the sound of breaking glass.
