CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY EIGHT – AND THE WINNER IS…
As the baking competition reached its climax, the festival grounds thrummed with anticipation. The remaining competitors, including Nancy, stood nervously by their displays, awaiting the judges' final round of tasting and deliberation. Rebecca hovered nearby, her hands clasped tightly as she watched the judges approach Nancy's table.
The head judge, a stern-looking woman with silver hair pulled into a tight bun, picked up one of Nancy's cinnamon rolls from the Ferris wheel display. She took a small bite, her expression unreadable as she chewed thoughtfully. The other judges followed suit, scribbling notes on their clipboards.
Rebecca held her breath, studying their faces for any hint of their thoughts. She noticed one judge frown slightly as he examined the structure of the Ferris wheel, likely noticing the hasty repairs they'd made after the sabotage attempt.
As the judges moved on to the next competitor, Nancy hurried over to Rebecca, her face pale with worry.
"Did you see that?"
