Chapter 08

NEON's perspective I stood up from the bed, marched down to the door, grabbed Diana by her wrist and dragged her out of the room, let the door slam shut behind me. “Neon!” I glowered at Diana, she was wearing a grey pantsuit a lavender silk blouse, and matching heels. Her blonde hair was smoothed into an elegant chignon. I wonder where she was coming from all dressed up. “Come with me, now.” I took in a deep breath to calm my agitation. She was struggling with me to let go of her wrist, surreptitiously, stealing glances through the door of Aria’s room. “Let go, Neon!” She yanked her hand free from my hold and rubbed her wrist while glaring at me. “Come with me. Quietly.” I ordered. “I deserve some respect too, Neon. Don’t you think I deserve to know what’s going on?” “Come with me,” I repeated my words and started to walk down to the study. She stormed her feet on the ground murmured inaudible words, and followed the path down to the study room. “Close the door.” “You are unbelievable Neon!” She half yelled. “I said close the door!” She hissed through her teeth and pushed the door hard and it slammed against the wall. “Why would you bring a stranger into the house and talk in hush voices about it? I suspect that something was wrong when you returned home late and refused to let any of the servants into that room. Why would you let a stranger into that room? Not even I get to stay here.” She lashed out immediately the door was shut fuming with her hands wrapped around her waist. “There was no other room,” I replied with my back against her. “That’s a lie. You never let anyone in there. You thought I wouldn’t find out about it? Who is she?” I pulled out the chair and sat down, placing my elbow on the table, Diana took two strides and stood before me. “Neon! Tell me who is she and why you brought her to the pack?! She wasn’t supposed to be in that room!“ She flared, and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at her. She was overreacting. “Lower your voice, Diana.” I picked up a pen and was writing on some papers. I wanted to make a list of the things I would get for Aria. She needs some new clothes and shoes. I want to stock her wardrobe with everything I could get. She scoffed and ran a finger through her hair, she trumped her fist on the table. I was startled a little as the ink from the pen spilled on the paper. “Diana!” “Why are you acting this way, Neon? Don’t I deserve to know?” “I was going to tell you after I have it all settled out.” “I’m your Luna!” She half yelled. “Know your place, you are just a temporary Luna. The seat was never yours in the first place. You are not my Luna.” I roared furiously, agitated with her attitude. A gasp escaped her mouth, she slumped on the chair facing the table. She nodded several times and leaned closer. “Who is she?” “She’s my mate. I found her in the human city.” “That’s why you let her into that room...” Her voice sounded calm. “It was meant for her,” I interjected and picked up another plain sheet, I was going to start all over again. I made that room for ‘mate’ No one has ever been there or seen what it looks it, it would have been shut forever if I never found her. “Does that mean she’s human?” She asked. I forced the word out of my mouth. “Yes.” “I want to have her close, you know how long I have been looking for her. I don’t want her to leave my side again.” I stated calmly to her, I know she would understand, Diana has been a good Luna to the pack and has been doing her duty as a temporary Luna. I was not against her being Luna, but the position was never hers because she has only been filling in the post for Aria. “You want to have a human as a mate?” “She’s my mate.” “Reject her, Alpha.” Diana lifted her chin with her cheek flushed. I took my gaze off the table and fixed them on her, what does she mean? Dropping the pen alongside. My fingers curled into my palm. How could she say such a thing? “As an Alpha, you know this more than anyone else, humans are weak, naive, they are just gullible. There are rules that humans are not allowed into the pack, it has been there even before you became Alpha.” Diana went on. “....moreover, she would only be a burden to you. You are the leader of our pack you do not need someone like her to belittle you. Think of your reputation as Alpha. You know these things, Neon.” She took in a breath and crossed her arms. “I am looking out for you, and the welfare of our pack. This isn’t right, you can not have a human as a mate. If it had been an omega who broke the rule of bringing a human to the pack, he would have been killed.” “At least I thought you would be happy that I found her.” “I...I am happy you found your mate that’s what every werewolf wishes for, to find their soulmate and live happily ever after which is all a delusion. It’s not the same for you, Alpha.” She held my gaze as if she was going to make me see reasons why I should reject her. “I have waited long enough to find her. Ana, I searched everywhere for her. I don’t care about the rules. I’m keeping Aria with me. Here.” I drawled on the last word. A flicker of unease lit her eyes, I could see her jaw was jutting, and the veins on her neck showed prominently, yet she forced a smile on her red lips. “I have no idea you were still looking for her after all those years. You told me you gave up, was that all a lie? That’s all you keep telling me, lies.” She paled. “An Alpha’s word is bigger than him, I did not lie to you, Diana you probably misunderstood me.” “I’m glad to clear up the misunderstanding Alpha. You have made it clear enough.” “I was lucky to find her at the mating ritual. I am not going to reject Aria as my mate. Rejecting my fated mate would make me lose part of my powers as an Alpha. I will keep her here until she accepts me as her mate.” She blinked her eyes at me. “That’s what you are going to do?” “Yes, Diana. I have plans to make her my Luna.” Diana nodded curtly and didn’t say a word. Then, she smiled at me, I couldn’t tell if it was genuine or not but I trusted Diana. She hasn’t been with me for the past five years acting as my Luna. “I want you to help her because Aria would be Luna of the pack,” I relay to her my plans. I caught a glimpse of her hands clenched tight. “Yes, Alpha. I will help her to my heart's delight.” Her lips spread out in a charming smile.
