Chapter 28
The first ray of sunlight in the morning came in through the slits of the curtains and it spread on my face. Only then did I realize that I’ve fallen asleep.
I looked up at Xavier, his face was pale and his brows were furrowed in his sleep.
I touched his forehead to check his temperature and I was relieved that his fever had subsided a bit. I fed him another pill.
I expected he would be hungry when he wakes up, so I made him some porridge.
When I was done, I called his assistant again, and instructed, “Don't tell Xavier that I was here. Even if he asks, tell him you took care of him last night, okay?”
The assistant protested but I hung up the phone blankly.
The moment I walked out of the bedroom, I seemed to have heard his murmured sighs. My footsteps faltered slightly, but I didn't look back.
It had just stopped raining when I stepped out. The cool wind of early autumn blew and my shoulders shuddered at the cold.
