Chapter 84
Edith glanced at my food and then pushed her bowl of egg soufflé toward me. "Try this. It's really good. It's steamed to perfection."
I smiled politely. "No, thanks."
"Just eat it," she insisted, placing the bowl right in front of me before I could say anything else.
I had no choice but to accept it with a smile.
Edith ate quickly, finishing her breakfast in just a few bites. Once she was done, she picked up her tray and left.
The moment she was out of earshot, Hansel leaned in and said, "Man, she gave you her egg soufflé—you should've just eaten it right away. What's the big deal? It's not like it's some rare delicacy. You made it awkward for no reason."
I chuckled. "What's awkward about that?"
"Come on, Mr. Webb, you're playing dumb, right? Don't tell me you haven't noticed—Edith's got a thing for you!"
I stiffened instantly and quickly replied, "That's her business. All I know is I don't like her, and that's all that matters."
Just as the words left my mouth, I saw a shadow
