"Hello, Captain Horton," Xyla managed meekly, keeping her head down as she gritted her teeth.
Playing along, Sean hummed in response and gave her a dispassionate nod. He did not even spare her a second glance and went over to sit with Norman when the older man beckoned.
Having pinned Xyla to her seat, Wendy left to bring the food from the kitchen.
Xyla could not muster the courage to face Sean at the table, so she bolted to her feet and made to help Wendy.
However, Wendy pinned her back to her seat. Xyla wasn't strong enough to resist or fight back.
"Oh, no, you cut yourself when you accidentally broke the plate earlier and nearly bled out. Stay put, and don't get water on your wound," Wendy said softly, her voice full of sisterly concern.
