But as they made their way through the dark house, they did not encounter anything that even moved. It really seemed like there was no one home. But the invaders were still very cautious anyway.
“Where do you think the book will be, Gavadiol?” Erom asked softly as they went up yet another flight of stairs and found absolutely nothing.
“I should expect it to be in some sort of library or study or something.” Gavadiol said.
He did not show it to Erom but he was secretly worried. Why hadn't they met a single soul in the house? Could it be for a simple reason like Nordveka just wasn't home? Or could it be a trap?
He clutched the handle of his dagger tighter and clenched his teeth as he went along. Gradually, they began to get into territory that seemed more comfortable. The carpets on the ground were getting softer and softer, the tapestry on the wall grander, and the general outlook just more sophisticated. Still, they encountered no one.
