218 One Man Short
There was silence after Volkin left. He was a troublemaker, it was true but at least he was an extra body in the quest. And it just left a bitter taste in the mouth - that whole quarrel.
“There's no need to cry over spilt milk.” Erom said briskly. “We have marked out the terrain already so let's go.”
“Cry over spilt milk?” Ella spat. “I say good riddance to him.”
“Sir Erom,” Freidis called softly. “Is there something between you and that lad? He always acts like you fought over something prior to now.”
Erom shrugged. “There actually is some backstory but I don't want to go into it.”
But he was soon to learn that his statement was the last thing he could have said to a group of females who were eager to get very promising information. They all got on their horses and got themselves out of there but Freidis and Ella did not stop pestering him about what the backstory was.
“Why are you so interested in knowing?” He asked flustered. Even Freidis, who ordinarily would be too timid
