143 A Daring Escape
“They are still active.” He turned to his companions as they crouched behind a small bush and listened to the frenzied sounds emanating from the camp. “This is bad. I had expected them to be asleep by now.”
“So what do we do?” Volkin whispered.
Erom considered for a bit. What kind of ceremony could it be that would have them all so active and for so long? He recalled as he moved among them hidden in the costume and barely anyone even looked at him. They had been that completely engrossed. And just like that, the idea came to him.
“What we need is a distraction. A diversion.” He murmured. “First, we need to get you fellows in costumes as well. Then I'll go create a diversion; you take the boys and get the hell out of here. I'll meet up with you all later.”
“Will that work?” Kelley asked anxiously.
“We'll have to hope it does.” Erom responded grimly. “It's our only hope currently.”
They moved through the brush carefully, eyes peeled out for any of their enemies who did not stay
