Jayden sat on the bench outside the morgue, utterly exhausted, his gaze lost in emptiness.
Being a doctor didn't mean he could save everyone. But what was the point of all his efforts if he couldn't even keep his best friend alive?
Floating beside him, I saw the hollow despair in his eyes and quickly tried to comfort him. "Jayden, don't be like this. Life and death have been written in someone's fate. I died early because I was unlucky—because of my own mistakes. You don't have to grieve for me.
"Besides, my family is long gone. Living was lonely anyway. Now, at least, I no longer have to suffer or be in pain."
I continued speaking beside him for a long time, but he couldn't hear a single word. He just sat there in silence, lost in his grief.
Half an hour later, Juliette arrived in a hurry. When she saw Jayden's bloodshot eyes, she hesitated momentarily. A flicker of emotion crossed her dark gaze.
